Jason Reeves Live

So My friend Brooke won tickets from My 99.9 a local radio station to see Jason Reeves.  It was a small gathering at Pikes Perk Coffee & Tea House in downtown Colorado Springs.  The venue was quiet and friendly and surprisingly roomy with 30 people on the top floor where the band was playing.  The atmosphere was a nice change from the typical bar scene on that stretch of Tejon.   It was also nice to see local artists artwork hanging in the coffee shops gallery.  A gallery looking to show off more local artist, Tell Don Heaberlin I sent you if you are looking to show there.
Anyway, about Jason Reeves.  Jason Reeves is a Iowa born and raise singer song writer.  Short in stature but boisterous in levity.   The show was entertaining given Reeves only played 5 tracks, Including his upcoming single.  He had a good time talking to the crowd and gave some whimsical nods to other song writers. His songs where a little too soft in my taste, but as one of 3 guys out of 30 people it's obvious he is not singing to my demographic.
His guitar playing was good.  Some songs like "bubbles on your toes"  had cute elements.  If cute is your thing.  Yet, I found his lyrics wanting.  Something about a grown man singing a song about "sticks and stones can't hurt me" is laughable.  Don't get me wrong his songs are not bad.  They are just better suited for the works of teenage girls or boy bands.

In all fairness the performance was an intimate affair and I wish him well.  The video bellow is a sneak peek at his upcoming single.  Its the most enjoyable song of the day and I bet it will sound sweet with a full band.

I will add the video once I find out why this site is not allowing it.

  1. Sounds like it was a nice little gathering for a musician with a clear demographic target. That's not a bad thing. Being aware of your audience is good for selling product.
I personally have only heard a few acoustic versions of songs that I like, so now I'm curious to hear what his music sounds like normally.
